LOCATIONS

If you find yourself wandering the vibrant streets of Indianapolis, make a point to stop by Black Circle, a noteworthy gem tucked away at 2201 E 46th St. This venue seamlessly blends the thrill of live music with an inviting atmosphere, making it a must-visit for locals and tourists alike. From metal enthusiasts to those seeking a chill night out with friends, Black Circle caters to all, boasting an impressive lineup of events that keeps the pulse of the city alive.

Upon entering, you'll be greeted by an eclectic ambiance that exudes personality. As one visitor, Charles Shoup, aptly noted, "the bartenders kept the lines moving quick" and were "really friendly." This commitment to stellar service shapes your experience from the moment you arrive. Here, it's more than just a venue; it's a community hub where music lovers converge, and new friendships are ignited amidst the beats.

What sets Black Circle apart is the intimacy it offers. Customer Eric Gmutza expresses it best: “Experiencing a band like Death Angel or Obituary in such an intimate setting is unreal.” Each performance feels personal, as patrons are often close enough to interact with the artists. This closeness creates an exhilarating connection, allowing fans to engage with their favorite musicians like never before.

The aesthetic is another highlight. Picture vintage VHS movies playing in the background, the intriguing decor of stickers coating the bathrooms, and even pinball machines ready for a friendly competition. Uriel Gama captures the essence perfectly: “The atmosphere was just right for the planned DJ,” and it is this delightful blend of nostalgia and excitement that enhances your visit.

While I won’t dive too deeply into the kitchen, the venue does host a variety of food vendors nearby, ensuring that you won't go hungry during your night out. Coupled with a rotating selection of craft brews—though some hit or miss as mentioned by Tim L—you'll find something to sip while you savor the sounds. The efficient staff ensures your experience is seamless, allowing you to focus on the music and the company around you.

In the world of live music, Black Circle stands as a beacon for those who cherish an authentic, passionate experience. Whether you're there for a metal concert, a DJ night, or simply to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, this venue promises an exhilarating night out. First time coming here for a planned event and the venue did not disappoint! The atmosphere was just right for the planned DJ. Music was phenomenal, drinks were on point and staff were very amigable. The decorations of the venue were awesome! They had vintage VHS movies and even a TV in which to play them! Pinball in the back with a small restaurant for a quick snack, and they sold merch as well. I would visit here for a regular night and check them out again. Had a blast with friends on a weekend. My favorite part was the bathrooms covered in stickers (:

Black Circle is hands down the best place to see live music—especially metal—in Indianapolis. No contest. Yes, it’s a small venue, but that’s a PRO, not a con. I’ve seen bands here that typically play venues two to three times this size, if not larger. Experiencing a band like Death Angel or Obituary in such an intimate setting is unreal. The bar service is always excellent, the staff is awesome, the sound quality is top-notch, and the talent they book is next level. Want to meet the band? It’s almost guaranteed. Artists love playing this venue because they can see and connect with just about every raging maniac in the crowd. Bands often work their own merch tables, hang out after the show, or even stand right next to you while the opener is playing. If you're a metal fan anywhere near Indianapolis and you're not here at least once a month, you're doing it wrong.

I hired Black Circle's production team for a private, off-site event and they did an AMAZING JOB. From planning, to set up, to execution, Kamaron and his team were very professional and delivered high quality live sound, lighting, and staging. If you're putting on a show, hit them up!

Full disclosure, I've only ever been for concert events--but what a great little venue! Intimate for sure, but enough room for folks to engage and get rowdy, with a sound system that will blow your socks off. Cant speak for their kitchen, but they keep a fantastic rotating selection of brews. I have never had anything but delightful interactions with the staff. I keep a close eye on upcoming shows, and I look forward to many more evenings in this little heavy metal haven.

I won't review the food because they've had a variety of food vendors next door. I will say, this is probably my favorite place to watch a show. They bring in a great variety of artist. The stage set up and sound is always on point. For busy shows they normally have a beer table outside to break up the lines a little. Their beer is a little hit and miss. I lean toward IPA's and it's been a minute since I've had a good one brewed by them. That said, they normally have some guest taps that keeps everyone happy. Happy to have Black Circle fill the void that 5th quarter lounge left when it closed.
